The Doggenhaus Concept
DoggenHaus is an independent creative project by Ada Birk, rooted in a lifelong connection with Great Danes, photography, drawing, design and the stories that grow around these extraordinary dogs.
What began with Deutsche Doggen, old websites, photographs and drawings has grown into a place for Great Dane art, information, creative work and ideas for people who live with, love or simply understand these enormous dogs.
DoggenHaus is not a rescue organisation, a breeding platform or a conventional pet shop. It is an independent project about the Great Dane and the world surrounding the breed.
Why DoggenHaus exists
After many years around Great Danes and rescue work, one thing became increasingly clear: helping individual dogs matters, but it does not necessarily change the conditions that create the problems in the first place.
Carefully considered, every effort may help one dog. But it does little to change the fate of the breed as a whole.
Too often, breeding decisions are made without sufficient understanding of the breed, and dogs are placed with people who are simply not prepared for what living with a Great Dane means. At the other end of the process, a dog can become a lifestyle purchase — something beautiful and impressive to have, until life becomes inconvenient.
That is not a problem that can be solved by rescue alone.
My life partner used to say that the animals we get to know reflect society. The way we treat animals tells us something about the way we treat one another.
DoggenHaus grew from that observation.
The idea is simple: create something that remains. Something that can share knowledge, preserve stories, encourage better decisions, celebrate the breed and give Great Danes a place in art and visual culture that is about more than simply selling a product.

Some things here are practical. Some are personal. Some are simply made because Great Danes are extraordinarily interesting subjects for art, photography and design.
Art, design and making things
DoggenHaus is also a place for making things.
Some of the artwork begins on paper with ink, water, colour and chance. Other projects begin with a photograph, an idea, a piece of typography or a practical problem that needs a visual solution.
Not everything here is about Great Danes.
The breed is the starting point, but creativity does not have to stay inside one subject. DoggenHaus also provides a place for other artwork, experiments and ideas that grow out of the same creative process.
Language
Doggen.haus is the international, English-language home of DoggenHaus.
DoggenHaus.com is the separate German-language website.
The two websites are independently developed and are not mirror translations of each other. They may share the same brand, ideas or individual projects, but each site has its own content and editorial direction.
Online shops
Some DoggenHaus designs and products are available through external marketplaces.
These shops are part of the DoggenHaus project, but they are not the project itself.
The website exists independently of the marketplaces and is intended to remain a place for information, art, stories and creative work.
